What a great week of photography and meeting people, it started on Tuesday when I was invited into my son's junior school to take photographs of the "Fastest Blindman on the Planet", his name is Steve Cunningham and he came to school with his assistant John Telford and his Guide Dog "Foster". He spoke to children, staff and parents about his life and the things he has achieved. He lost his sight when he was 12 years old and with help from family and friends and sheer determination he has gone on to complete a set of challenges that have made him a worldwide name. He has driven a car at 200mph, driven a speedboat at 200mph and has flown a plane around the coastline of the UK. During the day he also told children the stories of when he captained the England Blind soccer team to world cup glory. He inspired everyone he met on Tuesday and the questions came in thick and fast from the children, all were answered and he loved spending time talking to everyone he met. For everything that Steve has achieved in his life the star of the show was "Foster" the guide dog who just seemed to take it nice and easy and chill out whilst he was'nt required to be working.

Then on Friday I got a call from the Firestation to go and take some photographs of the some of the staff with the High Sheriff of Cumbria (Mrs I A Frost-Pennington DL). She had a short visit of the firestation meeting Officers who were on duty.

Next it was back to school to meet up with Barrow's MP, Mr John Woodcock who had been invited into the school to take part in a "Reading" project. John brought a copy of his favourite book with him and discussed it at length with some year 6 children. They quizzed him about the book and also about reading in general. Later on John had his photograph taken with the children which we are going to make into a poster to hopefully encourage other children and parents to read more. Other guests are coming in soon to discuss their favourite book.

Michelle and Tim were married on a freezing cold day in December, their wedding took place at Chequers Hotel dalton in Furness. After the service we all braved the cold and manged to use the grounds to get the photographs done. Before the meal the guests were suprised by a visit from Santa, dont know who enjoyed it the most the children or the Bridesmaids! At the Evening reception the couple danced to their favourite tunes before everyone joining them on the dance floor.

Claire and Mark

The last Saturday in October was the date for Claire and Mark's wedding. When I arrived at Claire's mum's house to photograph the preperations all was calm, expect for Claire's mum and Dad. Dad was still in his jeans as he had to do last minute shopping. The it was off to Beacon Hill Church to catch up with Mark, his best men, ushers and family. It was good to meet up with some old friends for previous weddings and to meet Shaun (http://www.digitalvisionvideo.webs.com/) who was filming the wedding day. A stretched limo brought the bridesmaids and Claire's mum and a Rolls Royce supplied by G Hall brought Claire and her father. Two of the couple's friends read during the service and the kids just did what kids do and ran round and had fun.

After the church service the new Mr&Mrs Lennon and myself went to the Abbey to get some "Bride and Groom" shots. The we carried on to Dalton to the reception at Chequers (http://www.chequers-hotel.co.uk/) The weather was kind to us so we completed the guest and family pictures before the couple and their guests were called in to have "The Wedding Meal". The Kill one on Duke Street was the venue for the evening reception, with Mr Pete Thompson providing the entertainment. During the first dance one of the bridesmaids let off a "Confetti Bomb" which was the loudest thing I had heard in ages. Congratulations to you both and best wishes to your families.

Getting Ready

Every Bride is different, some like to have a photographer or videographer there to capture "Getting Ready" but some do not. It all depends on how the Bride feels, some will prefer a female photographer to capture these special moments, some dont mind if it is a male photographer and some dont want those moments recording at all. When I meet up with my couples a week or so before the wedding this is just one of the things we discuss. In my experience most Brides want the photographer to arrive once she has her dress on and her bridesmaids/Mother are helping putting on Jewellery/Veil. Informal shots of just what is happening in the room can capture some of the excitement and emotion.

Rebecca and Russell

It was an early start for me as Rebecca and Russells wedding was in Preston, Lancashire. On arrival at the Penworthan Methodist Church I noticed a breakfast shop across the road and couldnt stop myself having a bacon bun and cup of coffee. Then Russell and his best man arrived and we got some shots, then I was directed to the brides parents house where the usual wedding morn chaos was happening. Back to the church and most of the guests had arrived and then the bride arrived with her father in a beautiful bright white Bentley. After the church service we all drove to Beeston Manor for the reception. what an amazing venue, it has fantastic grounds to the rear with great views over the Preston and district countryside. A local DJ provided the music for the couple and their guests to dance the night away.

Wedding Albums

I use the best Wedding albums on sale in the UK, they are made in Cumbria by an excellent company. They come in a variety of sizes: 10"x10", 12"x12", 18"x12" and 14"x11". Also available are A4 and A3 upright albums, my clients use these as gifts to parents, bridesmaid and best men. Once I have designed the album using the couples selected pictures, they are proofed or in many cases the couple just say get on with it "we trust you". Albums are printed and constructed usually with in 10 days of delivering them to the manufacturers. The larger albums come with a briefcase. All the main albums come with a Perspex cover which finish off the albums and make them so special.

The wedding of Gemma and Mark was held at Urswick village Church on a day that was dry then wet then dry again. The guests were driven to the church in a vintage bus with the bride arriving with her father in a vintage car. After a lovely service the couple and their guests had a champagne and strawberries meet and greet at the church doorway, joining them was Al Wright the local chimney sweep to wish them luck.

The vintage bus took the guests the short journey to the Coot as the couple went on a short trip in the car to hopefully arrive as the rain stopped. A soaking wet Piper was on hand to welcome the guests as the arrived at The Coot. Amazingly the sun came out and we used the grounds to take the family/friends/bridal party and bride and groom pictures.

Later on at the evening reception local band The Buzz played and we all went outside to enjoy a suprsie firework display. This was to be my last wedding at The Coot. Thanks to all the staff who have worked there in the past and for all your help in making so many wedding so successful.

Chequers Hotel in Dalton was the venue for the wedding of Becka and Mark, the sun shone briefly. Mark looked extremely smart in his uniform and shared a few nervous drinks with his friends and family in the Brown Cow before walking the short distance to Chequers. Becka, her Mum and Bridesmaids were getting ready in one of the many rooms available at Chequers. After the service we nipped to Furness Abbey ruins for a brief photoshoot while the guests assembled ready for the formal photographs. The evening reception was also held at Chequers.

The rain came down like I hadnt seen it come down before, but it never bothered Helen and Carl as they were married at Clarence House, Dalton in Furness. The Hotel staff were on hand with umbrella's to assist the Lads, guests and the Bridal party as they made their way to the Barn for the wedding. Sadly we had to take all the pictures inside and not manage to use the extensive grounds. Helen smiled all day and it rubbed off on everyone. The Nines held the evening reception and the entertainment was provided by Mr Pete Murphy.

Karen and Tony were married at St James Church in Barrow in Furness, the weather was good to us. After the service the newly married couple and their family and guests moved on to Clarence House in Dalton in Furness. We made great use of the grounds to complete the wedding photography. The guests were treat to hillarious speeches especially Baz the best man's. Later in the evening it was onto BAE, Hawcoat Park for the evening reception. This was hosted by the one and only Pete Murphy, the couple even managed a sneaky game of Bowls, which Karen ran out the winner.

St Mary's Church Dalton in Furness was the venue for Amy and Dan's wedding. The lads arrived in daimler provided by G Hall. Once the guests were in the church Amy arrived with her Dad in a Rolls Royce again provided by G Hall. Amy was welcomed by many of her work mates from Tesco. After the service we all went to Chequers Hotel Dalton in Furness for the reception. Amy and Dan smiled their way through the whole day.

The Grange Hotel, Grange over Sands was the venue for Michelle and Dan's wedding. We managed to use the grounds for the photographs as the weather was cloudy. The evening reception was held upstairs in the hotel and a local band who were friends of the groom performed.

A beautiful hot sunny day for the wedding of Faye and David. The Swan Hotel was the venue. Smiles,hugs, tears were all the order of the day as the happy couple were married. We used the brilliant grounds and water way as the back drop for our photographs. Faye and David only had eyes for each other and were never more than a couple of inches apart. David even managed a stint as Ice Cream seller!! The speeches were very emotional and Dave was presented with a present of a MUFC football jersey which did'nt go down to well as he is a Liverpool fan. After the meal we took further pictures on the bridge with the sun setting behind them. It was an honour to be part of your wedding Faye and Dave.

Brilliant sunshine was the order of the day for Elizabeth and Ian's wedding, the service was held at St Columba's church on Walney Island. Elizabeth arrived with her father in a Rolls Royce provided by G Hall. A choir made up of the couple's friends sang during the service and other friends read special readings. A double decker bus ferried guests to the Town Hall where a magician was waiting to entertain everyone. We took pictures outside and then all were invited in to the banqueting hall for speeches then the wedding breakfast.

The evening reception was held in The Forum which is just across the road from the Town Hall. Catch 22 ensured the dance floor was full all night long. A fun filled day was had by all.

Dalam Tower Milnthorpe was the venue for Colette and Andy's wedding. We all met at the Cross Keys Hotel and were driven to the venue in a vintage bus, the bride arriving in an open top Bentley. The service was held in the grounds of Dalam and we were treated to glorious weather. The guests drank Pimms while the bride, groom and myself used the extensive grounds for photographs. Everyone walked back to the Cross Keys through the Deer Park.

After the service we took pictures in the church grounds then on to The Lisdoonie hotel in Barrow. Further pictures taken in the gardens at the rear of the Hotel.

Friday the 8th of April saw the Wedding of Victoria and Andy at Abbey House Hotel, Barrow. A perfect sunny day greeted the guests as they arrived to celebrate with the happy couple. Andy mingled downstairs while Victoria and her bridesmaid got ready upstairs.

We took the photographs outside in the extensive grounds, then the couple and their guests had an Abbey House wedding meal. The day was rounded off with the couple and their friends and relations dancing the night away.

Sunday 27th March was the wedding day of Jeff and Emma, the ceremony was held in the Grand Hall at Abbey House. Jeff wore his uniform and looked very smart, guests arrived on a coach while Emma and bridesmaids were getting ready upstairs.

Luckily we had a dry day which enabled us to get the photographs taken out side in the large grounds. The evening celebration was held in the new part of Abbey house, music was provided by the resident DJ. Andy Smith as well as being a guest he sang and played guitar. Congratulations Emma and Jeff.

My first wedding of 2011 was the wedding of Stacey and Chris. Held on a dry but very cold day in February. Chequers Hotel was the venue for the ceremony and the reception.

Abbey House Hotel was the setting for Elizabeths and Marks wedding, a cold and very wet day. Elizabeth was upstairs in the hotel room getting ready while mark greeted guests in the bar area.

Nearly all photographs were taken in the Great Hall but the couple braved the weather for some portraits at the front of the hotel.

The evening entertainment was provided by "Amy Housewine" and she was fantastic and got several people up to dance with her.

Snow was on the ground as everyone arrived for the wedding of Louise and Geoff, the venue was Barrow Town Hall. Louise arrived in a 4x4 provided by a helpful neighbour. The town's Mayor and the local MP posed for photographs during the day.

The bridal party braved the cold and the snow to get some shots outside, followed by speeches the a fantastic meal in the Town Hall.

Our Lady of The Wayside, Grasmere was the setting for Kate and Leighton's summer wedding. The day started off wet but as we all arrived at he church the sun came out and shone for the rest of the day. Bride and groom stopped off for some private lakeside pictures before meeting their guests at The Merewood country house hotel, Windemere.

Drinks and snacks were served in the grounds while the photographs were taken the inside to speeches and a sit down reception dinner.

A very smart VW Van was used as transport for the groom and his groomsmen, the bridesmaids and the Bride and her father. The evening reception was held at The Nines with a fantastic fish and chips supper.

September saw me back in Grasmere for the first time in a few years. emma and matt were married at St Oswalds church in the town centre. The sun was hot and there was no wind. The reception was held at a Grasmere hotel foolowed by an evening reception at the village hall. I even managed to try a few buns filled with Hog roast, it was amazing.

The wedding of Kim and Chris was held on the 12th of June 2010 at Ireleth Church and the reception was at Abbey House Hotel in Barrow. The weather again was glorious and we had a great time photographing the families, guests, bridal party and the Bride and Groom.

A big screen showed the England match and the cake cutting and the first dance followed the game.

My second wedding of the weekend was back to The Coot on the tarn for the wedding of Vicki and Ian. They had the better of the weekend weather and it was a hot day. The bride arrived in an open top BMW driven by her father. Ian had arrived in Vicki's dads other car a MG.

The tarn was the back drop for the group pictures and further family and friends pictures taken under the trees to give us some shelter from the hot sun.

The evening party was held at The Nines.

Sarah and Robin

On the wettest day of the wedding season I was at The Coot on the tarn to photograph the wedding of Sarah and Robin. The weather never dampened their spirits and we had a fun filled day. The bridal party braved the rain and armed with big umbrellas, we managed to get some outdoor shots.

The evening guests were treated to a special dance routine that Sarah and Robin had been practicing. Thanks for a great day.

Saturday saw my first wedding in Millom for almost three years, the last time I was there it was hot but yesterday was the hottest day of the year by far. The lads arrived in style aboard a stretched Range Rover and the bride followed in a flashy Bentley.

After the service we headed to the beach for some bride and groom pictures then off to Haverigg for the reception and evening party.

Saturday the 15th of May saw the wedding of Kate and Mike at The Netherwood Hotel Grange. We had another sunny day but as usual in cumbria we had a cold breeze blowing. Photographs were taken in the extensive grounds, with the young flower-girls having great fun on the swing and climbing frame.

The evening entertainment was provided by Mr Steve Silver, who had everyone up on the dance floor from the very first song.

Big thanks to Gary and all his staff for their assistance on the day.

Michelle and Andrew

Abbey House Hotel, Barrow in Furness was the setting for the wedding of Michelle and Andrew. They had a glorious day but a little chilly and made full use of the extensive grounds at Abbey House. The wedding was a family affair and lots of children were running and playing on the lawn. I respect the decision the couple have made to keep their pictures private. Big thanks to Paul and his staff at Abbey House.

Sunday 2nd May was the Wedding of Hayley and Phil at Mytton Fold Hotel, in Lancashire. It was a very cold day but it did stay dry. I was assisted on the day by Toastmaster John Reid, who managed to get the group shot organised for me. A wonderful venue for a wedding and a great couple, with fantastic family and friends.

Phil was massively embarassed by his brother Stuart during the speeches as he had brought along some old family videos to watch.

Emma & Stephen

Friday saw the wedding of Emma and Stephen, the ceremony took place at Chequers Hotel Dalton in Furness. The sun was shinning and they took advantage of this to have a drive out in an open topped Bentley.

Photographs were taken in the grounds and a bouncy castle was used by all!

Saturday saw the wedding of Gemma and Graham, Gemma arrived in style to Abbey House hotel in a Morris minor driven by her Father. The sun was out and we made use of the extensive grounds, followed by a short walk to the near-by Furness Abbey ruins.

Kath and Paul were married on a glorious sunny day in Barrow in Furness, the ceremony was held at St Mary's Church, Duke Street. Followed by a reception and evening party at The Low Wood Hotel, Windermere. Everyone amazed at the brilliant British weather.

Anita and Richie were married at Chequers, Dalton in Furness, Cumbria. We managed to avoid the rain and photographs were taken in the grounds and at the near by Abbey. The evening reception was hosted by Pete Murphy. The couple had their honey-moon in the Maldives.

Laura and Phil celebrated their wedding with a service at St Mary's Church Dalton, followed by a reception at Clarence House Dalton. It was a sunny day but as usual it was cold and windy. Laura arrived with her father in a Rolls Royce provided by G Hall.
After the service we went to the Abbey to have some Bride and Groom time!
Drinks and further photographs were taken in the grounds of Clarence House, followed by speeches and a sit down meal. The evening reception was held at Chequers Dalton with music provided by John Penn.
